Managing Your Videophone Numbers
Local and Direct VP Numbers
The local number you receive is yours to keep — even if you switch default providers. The family, friends, and associates you give the number to will be able to dial you directly — either through VRS or point-to-point.
You can port a number you received from another provider to Sorenson at any time. Numbers you received from Sorenson can also be ported to other providers.
Local numbers and Direct VP numbers are part of the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) and are real telephone numbers. Telemarketers and others may now have access to your number. There are multiple ways to manage who has access to your number:
- The numbers you receive from Sorenson are not published automatically. You can choose to have your numbers published (both print and online) in phone number directories. Your number will be listed along with the telephone numbers of hearing people. Your number will not be marked as the videophone number of a deaf or hard-of-hearing person. If you would like your number published, please call Sorenson Customer Information at 800-659-4781.
- If you do not want telemarketers to be able to call you, you can register your number on the national Do Not Call list here: http://www.donotcall.gov
Sorenson Numbers
If you received a videophone before 2009, you probably received a Sorenson Number, also called a pseudo or proxy number. These numbers are being replaced by local 10-digit numbers. When you receive a local 10-digit number, we will alert anyone who calls your Sorenson number about your new number and the call will still go through. If you do not want us to alert people about your new number, you can call our customer information group at 800-659-4781
