How does SVRS work?

Video relay calls are placed over a high speed Internet connection (i.e., DSL, cable, or T1 line) through an easy-to-use Sorenson videophone connected to a TV, or through a personal computer equipped with a Web camera and Sorenson EnVision SL software. The deaf user sees an ASL interpreter on their TV and signs to the interpreter, who then contacts the hearing user via a standard phone line and relays the conversation between the two parties. Hearing customers can also place video relay calls to any deaf or hard-of-hearing person by simply dialing their local 10-digit number or DirectVP number with a standard telephone. For users who still prefer to use their existing videophone number, hearing callers can dial the general toll free number 1-866-FAST-VRS (1-866-327-8877) and provide the interpreter with the deaf user's Sorenson videophone number.

Are SVRS calls kept confidential?

SVRS calls are never recorded and call content is kept confidential. All SVRS interpreters strictly adhere to the Sorenson Communications caller confidentially policy.
