SIPRelay

When you don't have access to your Sorenson videophone and you need to communicate on the go, use Sorenson IP Relay (SIPRelay)! Using a personal computer or a mobile device, you can contact anyone, anywhere with SIPRelay.

SIPRelay is a free service that enables deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals to place text-based relay calls from their personal computer (PC) and/or mobile device to any standard telephone user in the U.S. and its territories. A Sorenson Communications Assistant (CA) contacts the standard telephone user and voices the text messages in real-time from the SIPRelay user. All you need to use SIPRelay is an Internet connection and a PC or mobile device enabled with AOL® Instant Messenger (AIM®).

SIPRelay works with any Internet connection when using a PC and is quick and easy to use. Simply send an instant message to "SIPRelay" using AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) or go to www.siprelay.com to place a call.

  • Sorenson Communications Receives DeafHope Award

    DeafHope Award

Sorenson Communications received DeafHope's "Glimmer of Hope" award at the organization's annual fundraising dinner, held in February 2010. The award was given to Sorenson Communications for its support of DeafHope's advocacy efforts. A California non-profit organization, DeafHope provides assistance to deaf women and children who are survivors and secondary survivors of domestic or sexual abuse.

Amber Hodson, one of DeafHope's eight female founders, says Sorenson has been extremely supportive of her organization since its inception in 2003. In addition to sponsoring DeafHope charity events, Sorenson has helped provide better VRS access for abuse survivors. Hodson says DeafHope employees have been working with Sorenson VRS Trainers to place videophones where they are most needed by abuse survivors. These locations include Oakland's A Safe Place women's shelter and the DeafHope office. VRS makes it easier for abused women to communicate with community service organizations such as the police, courts, violence prevention agencies and the District Attorney's office. As a result of this increase in communication, these agencies are becoming aware of the plight of abused deaf women and children. DeafHope also provides peer counseling and coordinates interpreters to accompany abuse survivors to violence prevention and legal aid agencies.

Currently, there is only one deaf women's shelter in the country. DeafHope is now raising funds to build a deaf women's shelter in the Oakland, Calif. area. For more information on this effort, visit www.deaf-hope.org. Sorenson Communications is pleased to support DeafHope in its important work for women and children in the deaf community.

  • DeafNation World Expo & Conference Coming this Summer

Plan now to attend DeafNation's first World Expo & Conference, the largest deaf event ever held, July 18 through 23, in Las Vegas. Sorenson Communications is pleased to be a major sponsor of the event. The World Expo & Conference will kick off with a high-tech light show on Freemont Street. The exhibitions will be held at the Sands Convention Center. There is no cost for admission to the Expo or any of the exhibitions.

"The DeafNation World Expo will offer four full days of exciting events, including more than 70 workshops," says Joel Barish, President of DeafNation. "Our previous expos have offered around 30,000 square feet of exhibit space. The World Expo & Conference will offer 200,000 square feet of exhibit space, so all of the attendees can meet in one building and see all of the exhibits under one roof."

    DeafNation

World Expo attendees will enjoy deaf-focused entertainment, workshops and exhibitions and can learn about Sorenson Communications' services at the Sorenson exhibition booth. Sorenson Communications will also host other social events during the Expo, which includes a pool party at the Treasure Island Resort & Casino the evening of Thursday, July 22.

At the close of the DeafNation Expo & Conference, attendees can enjoy the DeafNation Golf Classic, a DeafNation World Poker Tournament and the Miss Deaf International pageant. More than 30 contestants from around the globe will compete in the pageant. Says Barish, "Attending DeafNation's World Expo & Conference will be the best deaf event experience ever!"
