Away From Your VP?  Use Sorenson IP Relay

When you don't have access to your Sorenson VP videophone and you need to communicate on the go, use Sorenson IP Relay! Using a personal computer or a mobile device, you can contact anyone anywhere with Sorenson IP Relay.

Sorenson IP Relay (siprelay) is a free service that enables deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals to place text-based relay calls from their personal computer (PC) and/or mobile device to any standard telephone user in the US and its territories. A Sorenson Communications Assistant (CA) contacts the standard telephone user and voices the text messages in real-time from the siprelay user. All you need to use Sorenson IP Relay is an Internet connection and a PC or mobile device enabled with AOL® Instant Messenger (AIM®).

Sorenson IP Relay works with any Internet connection when using a personal computer and is quick and easy to use. Simply send an instant message to "siprelay" using AOL Instant Messenger (AIM®) or go to www.siprelay.com to place a call.

Montgomery County Schools Use the Sorenson VP-100 Videophone
School to Establish a Model VRS Program

The mainstream Montgomery County Public School System in Maryland is utilizing Sorenson Communications' technology and personnel to create a highly effective communications system for its deaf and hard-of-hearing students, parents, faculty and staff.

Montgomery County's schools are using Sorenson VP-100 videophones at nine public school sites-every public school in the district, K-12, that has deaf or hard-of-hearing staff or students. "We have established this program for all levels of schools throughout our district," said Cheryl Lee of Rockville High School, coordinator of interpreting services for Montgomery County. "We believe this program will greatly improve communication opportunities for our deaf and hard-of-hearing staff and faculty, students and their parents."

Lee estimates that about 20 VP-100 videophones have been set up thus far, and are available in each classroom with deaf or hard-of-hearing students or staff. Three videophones are also available at the headquarters for the district's deaf and hard-of-hearing unit at Gaithersburg Middle School. Video relay service (VRS) calls can be made from deaf students or staff to their hearing parents or friends using the VP-100 videophones.

"Our deaf students are excited about this program," said Susan Russell of Gaithersburg Middle School, coordinator of the program. "When we bring Sorenson Communications representatives to class students jump up and down and ask for their business cards."

The district employs communications specialists at each school to educate faculty, staff, students and their parents about the use and value of VRS services.

"Susan, Cheryl and the Montgomery County Public School System are doing a tremendous job removing barriers to communication between deaf and hearing users," said Cameron Tingey, an East Coast regional sales director for Sorenson Communications. "What they are establishing will be an excellent model for other schools and districts to follow."

Sorenson Communications Installs VP-100 Videophones for USAA
Deaf employees at one of the nation's leading insurance companies will begin to enjoy the industry's leading videophones and VRS service at the office. Sorenson VP-100 videophones will be installed directly at the desks of all deaf employees at the San Antonio offices of USAA Insurance, which provides comprehensive insurance, banking and other financial services for members of the U.S. military and their family members.

"We appreciate the support of the Sorenson Communications outreach team members who offered to equip our deaf employees with industry standard Sorenson VP-100 videophones," said Rose Servant of USAA's San Antonio offices. "I am confident that the gift of these videophones will boost the productivity of all of those who use them."

"We appreciate the confidence of USAA's San Antonio offices in our products and services, and are excited for the opportunity to install V-100 videophones for each of their deaf employees," said Liz Rentner, an outreach manager for Sorenson Communications. "The opportunity to make a difference for deaf and hard of hearing VRS users is an extremely rewarding experience."

Special thanks to lead quilter Donna Orozco and our other friends in the Tucson's Deaf Women's Quilting Club, who created this gorgeous quilt in appreciation for the meaningful work Sorenson VRS is doing in Tucson. The quilt is now hanging in the Tucson Sorenson VRS Interpreting Center.

Letters from Sorenson VRS Users
Hello!

I wanted to send a short note to thank you for your assistance in getting me a VP-100 videophone for my office. By the way, the remote for my home VP-100 works beautifully. Thank you so much.

Warm regards,

Jackie Roth
Sorenson VP-100 and Sorenson VRS User

As a hard-of-hearing oral customer with a hearing partner, I had no problems with the technicians, Rocco and Robert Tawney, who came to assist me with the installation of the Sorenson VP-100 unit. I appreciated the fact that someone was there to speak orally with myself and my partner, so that ease of communication occurred. I was so satisfied with the service and professionalism of the technicians - their patience, helpfulness, fast replies to me by IM or e-mail and willingness to work with my schedule. And on top of it all, this new technology is impressive! Once able to use…these VP features…we are hooked! The wonders of communication!
