Layoffs Explained

The interim rate set by the FCC is below the costs required for Sorenson to operate at current levels. This has caused Sorenson to make operational changes and cost reductions across the company that resulted in the elimination of several hundred jobs including management. Sorenson is deeply saddened that it was forced to take this action. Had the FCC not made such a drastic reduction in the rate with their interim order, none of the jobs would have been eliminated.

Facts:

  • This is the only layoff Sorenson Communications has ever had.

  • 5 VRS Interpreting Centers have been closed.

  • A few hundred employees have been laid off.

  • Layoffs took place across Sorenson in many groups including management.

  • Sorenson is not going out of business. Sorenson has made these changes in order to stay in business.

  • Sorenson will continue to provide the highest quality VRS for our customers.
